Welcome to Liu lab at UNO

Liu lab is interested in understanding the mechanisms by which cells sense and respond to changes in their internal and external environment, with emphasis on nutrient-sensing pathways. We use the budding yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, as the model organism to study the regulation of signaling pathways mediating cellular responses to the quality of nutrients, especially amino acids. Three pathways under study in our lab are united by the common factors, amino acids, which have regulatory functions. We employ a variety of tools, including the awesome power of yeast genetics, cell and molecular, fluorescence microscopy and biochemical techniques, to uncover novel regulatory factors and the mechanisms by which these factors regulate these pathways.
